A skill is only as useful as the data it can reach. Here's how to link Gmail, Calendar, and Drive to Claude, then set up a skill that keeps a document updated on its own, straight from what's in your inbox and on your calendar.
This is the switch everything else in this guide depends on. Without it, Claude can't run a skill or save a file back to your Drive, so it's worth confirming before you touch anything else.
On a Free, Pro, or Max plan, go to Settings > Capabilities. On Team or Enterprise, go to Organization settings > Skills instead.
Switch Code execution and file creation to on. That's the whole step.
If a skill won't trigger later on, come back here first. A skill sitting in your list doing nothing is almost always this setting, not the skill itself.
One connection covers all three at once. You're authenticating directly with Google, the same as signing into any other app, not handing Claude a password.
In any chat, click the + icon and hover over Connectors.
Select Google Workspace and sign in with your Google account, then approve the permissions Google shows you.
From that same Connectors menu, you can toggle Gmail, Calendar, and Drive on or off individually whenever you want.
Worth knowing: Claude only sees what your Google login already has access to. It isn't scraping anything you couldn't already open yourself.
A skill is a small set of instructions that tells Claude exactly how you want a recurring task handled, so you're not re-explaining the same thing every time you open a chat.
Head to Customize > Skills.
Click Upload skill and select a .zip file containing a SKILL.md file, or click Create new skill to write one from scratch inside Claude.
Toggle the skill on once it shows up in your list.
Running a brokerage on Team or Enterprise? An owner can upload a skill once at the organization level, and it appears for everyone automatically. Nobody has to install it themselves.
Now for the part that actually saves you time. Start a chat, name the skill directly or just describe what you need, and let Claude figure out the rest.
It looks through Gmail and Calendar for whatever's relevant to the task you described.
The first time Claude needs to read or act on that data, it asks you to confirm. Approve it and the task continues.
Claude writes the update directly into the target Sheet or Doc, sitting right there in your Drive.
The reply includes citations showing exactly which emails or calendar events it pulled from, so you're never taking the update on faith.
None of this should slow you down, but it's the kind of thing you want to know before a client asks and you don't have an answer ready.
Claude asks before sending an email or moving, sharing, or trashing a Drive file. On Team or Enterprise, an owner can let trusted actions skip that check.
Anything pulled through a connector is stored with that specific conversation. Delete the chat, and the retrieved data goes with it.
Claude can see a Gmail attachment's filename and size, not what's inside it.
Print the cheat sheet, keep it next to your desk, and run through the setup once. After that it just runs.
